Government plans for measures to tackle the high number and cost of whiplash claims have been delayed until August 2020.
The measures, that were originally due to be implemented in April, include:
- a fixed tariff of damages that a court may award for pain, suffering and loss of amenity for whiplash injuries sustained in a road traffic accident,
- a ban on the making or accepting of offers to settle a whiplash claim without a medical report,
- increasing the small claims track (SCT) limit for road traffic related claims to £5,000.
The BVRLA supports these reforms due to the potential reduction in insurance costs for members.
