The BVRLA has been shortlisted for a national Counter Terrorism Award for its work increasing awareness across the vehicle rental sector and helping to mitigate the risk of vehicles being used as weapons.
Organisers of the 2020 Counter Terror Awards, Counter Terror Business Magazine, shortlisted the BVRLA in appreciation and recognition of the association’s efforts to help make the country safer.
The association has been instrumental in leading the vehicle rental sector’s response to the threat of vehicle terrorism following a spate of attacks that took place in the UK in 2017. Since then the BVRLA has worked with the Department for Transport to develop its Rental Vehicle Security Scheme.
In November 2019, the Government enlisted the BVRLA to be an approved partner to monitor and assess compliance against the scheme. The principles and requirements of the scheme have now been incorporated into the association’s mandatory Code of Conduct for all Rental and Commercial Vehicle members and monitoring compliance with the scheme now forms part of the association’s existing governance programme.
Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport, Baroness Vere recently acknowledged the contributions of the BVRLA in a speech at the Road Transport Security Partnership:
“I’m delighted that the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association has agreed to include the Scheme’s requirements in its membership conditions.”
The BVRLA has been shortlisted in the Transport Security Award category alongside Heathrow and Gatwick airports and the winner will be announced on 24 April 2020.
