Government reflects on BVRLA’s ask to reform RTFO

The Government has published a consultation on the future of the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) scheme.

One question is whether the RTFO should be adapted to support wider transport decarbonisation objectives such as support for renewable electricity used by road vehicles. This is something the BVRLA and other industry partners have been requesting for some time.

Including renewable electricity in the RTFO, as is the case in many European countries and in California, would improve the commercial viability of potential charging sites. This would support continued growth of charging across the UK and allow charge point operators (CPOs) to be more competitive with their pricing, potentially make charging more affordable.

The BVRLA will be formatting a response – if members are interested in providing input to this, contact [email protected].
