‘Challenge’ was the word on everyone’s lips at last week’s Industry Outlook Conference. Featuring industry leaders sharing their insights on the challenges of 2024 and expectations for 2025, the conference included thought-provoking keynotes, dynamic panel discussions and interactive breakout sessions.
The event was built around the Industry Outlook Report, which guided discussions and provided a foundation for forward-looking conversations.
Lilian Greenwood MP, Minister for the Future of Roads at the Department for Transport (DfT), sent a pre-recorded speech on the unique role of the rental and leasing sector in the transition towards net zero targets. The short address also included an update on the van transition and reiterated the recent steps taken to support uptake of zero-emission vehicles. Top takeaways from the Industry Outlook Conference included:
- Key themes: The event tackled critical subjects including business resilience, the commission disclosure ruling, the road to decarbonisation, and economic trends.
- Engaging discussions: Delegates praised the blend of expert insights and interactive networking. One attendee remarked, “Good use of industry speakers to create a well-constructed day. Engaging content and a good amount of networking time. I like these events as they challenge our thinking and help us to look ahead.”
- Words of the year: In a reflective activity, attendees shared one word to describe 2024—Challenging came out on top. At the close of the event, Challenge was identified as the outlook for 2025, underscoring the ongoing churn seen by the sector and continued need for members to retain their resilience.
The conference would not have been possible without the support of partners Auto Trader UK, Coastr, drivvn, Kwik-Fit (GB) Ltd, and United Rental Group. The BVRLA also extends its gratitude to the exhibitors LexisNexis, QV Systems, epyx Limited, Targa Telematics, Jaama Ltd, Record360, and Arnold Clark.
