The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has recently launched a series of two-minute video guides about data protection and direct marketing, aimed at small business and sole traders.
The three videos include easy tips to help members handle personal information confidently when carrying out direct marketing activities.
Direct marketing can be a very effective way to help connect with customers, tell them about your business or organisation and increase their trust in your brand.
When using personal information to carry out direct marketing, any company needs to follow some rules. These rules apply when targeting a particular person, such as by telephoning or texting their number, sending something to their email address, or sending them a personalised letter or flyer which includes their name. It is important to comply with data protection rules, both to avoid financial penalties and to let people will know they can trust the business to use their data fairly and responsibly.
